December Round Up
Hi, friends! I thought it would be fun to update you on what we’re doing here at the Gilbert house this month. Honestly, outside of our kids’ activities, we don’t do much more than read, watch TV, and eat...so here’s what I’ve been reading, watching, and eating lately!
What I’ve Been Reading
In addition to the books I’ve reviewed and shared, I’ve been reading some other books I wanted to share with you!
Right Here Waiting by Michelle Sass Alekson and Susan May Warren
This book rounds out the Sunrise Deep Haven Collection and I just adored it! The premise: He’s a dog sledding celebrity (who knew?) trying to keep his business afloat and she’s ex-military with something to prove. They form an online bond; then she moves to town and sparks fly in real life- except he doesn’t know that she’s the girl he’s been falling for online. Lots of winter-weather-related danger and plenty of cozy kisses! Just a perfect December read!
It Happened at Christmas by Christen Krumm
This book is so cute! It’s a quick YA retelling of the 90’s rom-com While You Were Sleeping. It’s set in a boarding school and full of quirky characters you will just adore! Plus, you’ll add “waffles” to your vocabulary as your favorite faux-swear. This is available on Kindle Unlimited or for $5.99.
A Sugar Creek Christmas by Jenny B. Jones
Jenny B. Jones always crafts characters with engaging voices. This Hallmark-ish small-town love story is no different. A second chance romance where one character is returning home from the big city after a dismal failure? Yes, please! Available on Kindle Unlimited or for $3.99
Where Treetops Glisten by Cara Putman, Sarah Sundin, and Tricia Goyer
This trio of World War II Christmas novellas by three Christian fiction superstars will knock your socks off. Seriously, it is the best book I have read in a long time! Each author tells the story of a different sibling from Lafayette, Indiana’s Turner family. From the home front to the front lines of battle, these stories transport you to another time and place effortlessly. They are all so heartwarming. If you pick one Christmas read this season, let it be this one! I couldn’t put it down. It’s on sale for $1.99 for Kindle!!!! There’s also a soundtrack available on Spotify!
What I’ve Been Watching
The Great on Hulu
You guys, this funny, irreverent, sometimes true account of the reign of Russia’s Catherine the Great is golden. It is definitely extra, extra spicy, so don’t consider this for family viewing, but it is hysterical! We only have two episodes to go before finishing the series, and I’m going to miss Catherine and Peter when it is over.
What We’re Eating
I don’t know about you but I get so tired of menu planning. My imagination is severely limited.
How many times a month can we have chili? (The answer is once- maybe twice if you don’t do it in quick succession.) I have a few staples I rotate around but I try to find one thing each week that’s new and different. Tonight, I’m trying this Beef and Broccoli Ramen Stir Fry, except without hoisin sauce and sesame seeds. I’ll let you know what the verdict is!
What’s going on with you? What are you reading, watching, and eating? I’d love to hear!
